Everybody has experienced that absolute wave of horror when forgetting something important. Perhaps you have accidentally forgotten about an important job interview or you’ve popped to the shops and left the iron on at home. When the penny drops… it’s a terrible feeling. It’s even worse when you’re on holiday and you’ve forgotten something. After all, it’s hardly convenient to pop back 500 miles home to pick up your sunglasses or feed the cat. Cue that familiar sinking feeling. Luckily, some holiday websites provide a travel checklist that can easily be printed and are useful for remembering all the important facets of a holiday. Currency changed? Check. Sunglasses packed? Check. All children have successfully boarded the plane? Check. Furthermore, it’s also important to immerse yourself with the local laws and customs when heading abroad. There’s nothing worse than putting your foot in it with the locals when it comes to language, clothing or a myriad of other customs. Take Dubai, for example. Prior to beginning a holiday in the emirate, it is essential to read up on the local laws and customs that inhabit the area. There are laws and customs relating to how individuals in the area can dress. If you feel that something is too revealing, then it probably is. Furthermore, public displays of affection are a big no-no. Due to the emirate’s large Muslim population, one such custom of the religion is that public displays of affection need to be kept in check. Similarly, cursing and acting rowdy in public is guaranteed to get you in trouble with the local police force. As such, it’s important to take a list of laws and customs with you to [...]

Travel Articles from What Travel - Tourism articles and trip ideas

How to Travel Economically

Holiday Planning

Add up all the costs for the travel

cut expenses on traveling costs

make each cost as low as possible

Make Plans Ahead

spend less on a travel trip

take advantage of family and friends

Travel Economically

How to Travel Economically

Taking an amazing vacation is the dream that many of us share. We dream about visiting exotic lands and experiencing new things with those we love. However, the one thing that always holds us back from taking these dream vacations seems to be the money to travel. There never seems to be enough to do all the things we want and traveling can be very expensive. But traveling doesn’t have to cost a fortune! In our day and age it is easier than ever to score some really great deals on the destinations that interest us most. In fact, if you follow these helpful tips, affording your dream vacation is closer than you think. You, too, can travel economically. If You Want to Travel Economically – Make Plans Ahead The first step to cutting down traveling costs is to plan out a specific budget for your travels. If you don’t set a limit for how much you want to spend, you are pretty much guaranteed to spend more than you want. Add up all the costs you can think of that involved in your trip; things like plane tickets, parking expenses, food costs, fuel costs, rental car expenses, entertainment costs, hotels, etc. Really take some time to think about all the things you spend money on when you travel. The little things you don’t think about can add up and bust your budget if you aren’t careful. Next, you need to figure out the maximum amount of money you are comfortable spending in each of these areas. What is the highest amount you will spend for one night’s lodging? How much is okay to spend on food in one day? Decide ahead of time or it will be very hard to control the expenses. The next step is to examine [...]

Travel Articles from What Travel - Tourism articles and trip ideas

San Francisco Travel

Travel Destination

Alamo Square

Alcatraz Island tours

America's most crooked street

Fisherman's Wharf

Ghiradelli Square

Golden Gate bridge

international travel experience

San Francisco tours

San Francisco Travel

the city of San Francisco

San Francisco Travel

Though I will admit that my international travel experience is limited to say the least, I can say with certainty that I have been to my fair share of U.S. cities. My list includes the magnificent cities of Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, New Orleans, Orlando, Boston, and Las Vegas, just to name a few. Though I loved the shows of New York, the lights of Las Vegas, the music of New Orleans, the weather of Los Angeles, the architecture of Chicago, and the history of Boston, my favorite city trip by far was when I traveled with a friend of mine before my senior year in college to San Francisco, California. San Francisco travel is a delight from beginning to end. I visited the beautiful and relaxed city of San Francisco in August of 2008 and could not have asked for a better vacation spot. Upon arrival, after discovering that the tram we took from the airport dropped us off nowhere near our hotel, we spent a long but rather enjoyable trek through the city center, dragging our luggage along with us. Though tiring, it was a wonderful way to take in the city. Places to Visit When Going on a San Francisco Travel Journey In the coming days, my friend and I visited Fisherman’s Wharf, where we enjoyed local calamari and the aquarium, and also found a small bakery we were able to tour, complete with samples at the end. We paid a little extra to “see” the Golden Gate bridge, though I have to admit we were rather disappointed that the fog was too thick for us to see anything but the base. But we explored the old army fort at the base of the bridge and enjoyed the history there as well. Though cold on the [...]

Travel Articles from What Travel - Tourism articles and trip ideas

Williamsburg On Vacation

Family Holidays

Busch Gardens

Colonial Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg Ghost Tour

family destination spot

family friendly place

George Washington’s favorite tavern

The Big Bad Wolf rollercoaster

The Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg

The Tavern Ghost Tour

Williamsburg On Vacation

Williamsburg On Vacation

One of my favorite places to visit on vacation is the Williamsburg, Virginia area. This part of the United States is special in that you can have a fun filled and action packed history inclusive family vacation that everyone will enjoy. For history that is actually fun to learn about, there is Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown. Then when you feel you need to create some adventurous memories of your own, head on over to Busch Gardens and have some extreme fun. Williamsburg on vacation can accommodate both culture and fun. Williamsburg Virginia is a beautiful suburban area that has celebrated and respected its southern heritage. The people of Virginia are friendly and polite. The landscape is lush and green. There are accommodations available from the more modest up to the more luxurious. If you go to Virginia in the summer it would be advisable that you make a reservation somewhere with a pool as it can be very hot there in July and August. Colonial Williamsburg can be done even with the kids. It is a very family friendly place. There are no long line venues and everything is accessible with a stroller too. If you go on Saturday and Sunday you will get you more bang for your buck. Williamsburg is living history as it never closes, it is open 24 hours a day because it is not an exhibit as much as a real place. Just go to anywhere along the Duke of Gloucester Street and you will be in a fine place for any local activity. This would be the area to find one of the carriages that give little scenic tours around the area. One fun activity to do with the younger set is a Colonial Williamsburg Ghost Tour. You see the whole 175 acres [...]

Travel Articles from What Travel - Tourism articles and trip ideas

The revival of the Dorset holiday

Travel Guides

Dorset holiday

holiday in Dorset

The revival of the Dorset holiday

One main area where the recession hit was holidays. Families were still eager to get away but money was not certain and nobody wanted to rely too heavily on travel operators in case they went bust mid-break; taking their flights home with them. So, many people opted to holiday at home; taking a break without leaving UK soil. The recession is now coming to an end, but many families have been bitten by the ‘staycation’ bug and are waving goodbye to package holidays for good. Why a Dorset holiday with the family is making a comeback One of those UK destinations lucky enough to see something of a renaissance during the recession is Dorset. With its popularity through the roof, the little county on the coast is gearing up for another vibrant summer, where those who fell in love with it first time round on their first Dorset holiday come back for another visit. A family holiday in Dorset is one of the most attractive options when staying in the UK over summer. Offering miles of sandy beaches, bustling market towns and rural strolls, there is something for everyone. One of the biggest attractions in a Dorset holiday is the Jurassic Coast, which dates back – as the name attests – to the dinosaur age. Walkers along the coast are no strangers to finding fossils dating back millions of years nesting in the sand or along the sheer cliff faces. With unspoilt sea to one side and imposing cliffs to the other, this is certainly a walk with a difference. Elsewhere, Dorset’s quaint market towns offer much of what you could need in picturesque surroundings. If a stroll through markets and cobbled streets isn’t satisfying a certain someone in the family, there are also plenty of beer festivals they can [...]

Travel Articles from What Travel - Tourism articles and trip ideas

How to Decide Where to Take Children on Vacation

Holiday Planning

Children on Vacation

family vacation

Ideas to Where to take Children on Vacation

travel preparation

How to Decide Where to Take Children on Vacation

The decision of where to take children on vacation can be a difficult one. If your children are widely of different ages or have differing interests, the decision can be even more difficult. Here are a few suggestions on how to choose a vacation spot that will appeal to everyone in the family. It is Important to Know your Family When Taking your Children on Vacation First of all, think about what your family enjoys doing together. Are you outdoorsy types who love to go for bike rides and hikes in the woods? Are you curious thinkers who enjoy exploring new places and discussing what you liked and disliked about them? Are you adventurers who love trying new and different experiences? Are you travelers who want to explore as much of your country and the world as possible? Do you prefer traveling with a group and following a pre-planned agenda or would you rather explore on your own? Do your kids like diving in on hands-on projects or do they prefer to sit back and watch? Particularly if your children are older, let them have some input in vacation planning. Sit down with the whole family and brainstorm some ideas about what each person would like to do and where they would like to go. You may be surprised by the quiet child who wants to ride roller coasters or the active, athletic child who’s dying to just lay on the beach. Take their ideas seriously, and if they offer some suggestions that are unrealistic or unfeasible, discuss what they like about those options and what other things you could do that might be similar. For example, if a child wants to take a trip to a dude ranch but that’s not in your budget, perhaps you could find a [...]

Travel Articles from What Travel - Tourism articles and trip ideas

My First Vacation with My Boyfriend

Holidays and Relationships

Gulf World Marine Park

Mistake Roll

Panama City Beach

Ripley’s Believe It or Not

Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum

Vacation with your boyfriend

My First Vacation with My Boyfriend

The first vacation that I ever had with my boyfriend was the first time I felt true love and also the first time I was fortunate enough to witness true beauty: the ocean! It was technically a family vacation because my mother went as well. We all went to Panama City Beach for a little over a week and it was my absolute favorite vacation of all time! This is the vacation that I compare all others to, the one that I wish I could replay over and over in my head, and the one that was perfect in every single way. While in Panama City Beach, we spent plenty of time at the beach (of course), we all went to the Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum, my boyfriend and I went to the Gulf World Marine Park, we also consumed plenty of sushi and spent entirely too much money! However, it was the best time of my life and I wouldn’t take back a second of it. The beach was glorious and absolutely perfect. It was my first time ever seeing the ocean. Considering that I have lived in Florida my entire life, that was a little odd, but I made up for lost time and enjoyed the heck out of it! It was the purest white, soft sand that anybody could imagine and the water was warm and crystal clear. We collected shells, swam around, and walked hand in hand watching the sun set. It was the most romantic time, being at the beach. I truly enjoyed every moment of it. We continued our beach fun by taking pictures of each other and laughing the day away. Thankfully, we didn’t get sunburn! The Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum was fairly amusing for one of the days [...]

Travel Articles from What Travel - Tourism articles and trip ideas

My First Vacation with My Girlfriend

Holidays and Relationships

Club One

First Vacation with my Girlfriend

Haunted tours

River Street

Savannah

Savannah GA

My First Vacation with My Girlfriend

My girlfriend, Julia, is not from Georgia. She was born in Dallas, Texas, lived in New Hampshire for a while, then settled in Atlanta back in 2005. We met after she had been living in Decatur for a few months, but we did not begin dating until 2007. Not long after we started seeing each other, we both had some time off due to us and decided to take a little holiday together. The question was: Where? Julia had heard of Savannah but had never been there. In order to persuade her that the city was wonderfully lively and interesting, I made her sit down and watch ‘Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil’. It’s not the best representation of Savannah, but it would suffice. As soon as the credits began to roll, I explained that we would most likely not run into Joe Odom or Lady Chablis. However, we could certainly go to Club One to see the Doll’s show. I think that cinched it for her. The drive from her apartment to Savannah took about five hours and was quite pleasant. The early spring weather ensured that we stayed cool while we walked up and down River Street. The pollen, on the other hand, played havoc with Julia’s allergies, prompting more than one trip to a local drug store for generic antihistamines during our stay. As much as I wanted to stay near River Street, our budget would only allow us to stay in a motel on Abercorn Street, way out in the commercial district. We were within walking distance of chain supermarkets, an Ikea, and probably three McDonald’s restaurants. Hardly my vision of Savannah’s old-world charm, but it would suffice. Fortunately, the historical district was only a few miles away and I was able to talk [...]

Travel Articles from What Travel - Tourism articles and trip ideas

NYC’s Village Halloween Parade

Events to Travel to

Halloween Parade

New York Halloween Parade

New York Parade

Village Halloween Parade

NYC’s Village Halloween Parade

If you happen to be a tourist in New York City on the eve of Halloween then there is no better place to enjoy the night than on the streets of New York along with thousands of New Yorkers dressed as zombies, vampires and whatever unique costumes you can imagine, and participate in the annual Village Halloween Parade. This is the nation’s biggest public Halloween celebration and has become an annual tradition for every true New Yorker and tourist alike. There is probably no other Halloween celebration that is more impressive than this two hour parade that starts from Sixth Avenue at Spring Street, and stretches north along Sixth Avenue up to the 23rd Street. According to New York Village Halloween Parade official page almost 50,000 people attend this Halloween. The only requirement to participate in this Halloween parade is to be in costume and march the streets with dancers of different styles and form, gigantic puppets, musicians from all around the world and artists with extraordinary imagination. Be sure to come in your best, wackiest and most unique costumes to get a shot at winning the most coveted Best Costume Award. If you are a true blue New Yorker then you may well be attending the Village Halloween Parade and the chances are you will be disguised as an action superhero more fantastic than last year’s vampire costume. If you are not from New York then there is no better time to travel to New York than this Halloween and attend this must see and must experience event that you should should certainly experience at least once. I have to work on my zombie costume so I guess I’ll see you guys on the streets. You will recognize me as the sexiest zombie you’ve ever seen. Happy Halloween!

Travel Articles from What Travel - Tourism articles and trip ideas

Lombok, the Island of leisure, adventure, and an ideal place for meeting and convention.

Asian Travel

family vacation

holiday

Lombok

travel package

Lombok, the Island of leisure, adventure, and an ideal place for meeting and convention.

Lombok Island is an ideal place for a family vacation, adventure holiday, leisure tour, honeymoon trip, incentive tour and for meeting and convention packages. The people are so warm and friendly. Wherever the travelers go they will find the people smile and say, “Halo tourist, how are you and where are you going”? For western culture, asking where you are going is really a private question. In Lombok, however it is a symbol of frienliness and friendship. Generally, the weather in Lombok does not really differ from other islands in Indonesia. Mainly there are two main seasons, the rainy and dry seasons. The rainy season starts in September and ends on February. The rest of the months are the dry season. During the rainy season, the air humidity is a bit higher, which makes the temperature hotter. The best and the most wonderful time for traveling around Lombok is in the dry season, from March to September. Private villas, business class hotels, resort hotels, and backpackers’ class hotels are available in every tourist area. Lombok can be reached by public economy class ferry and by air conditioned fast boat from Bali and by flights from many major cities in Indonesia and from some big world-wide cities as since October 1st 2011 an International airport, BIL (Bandara International Lombok) or Lombok International Airport has been officially opened and ready to serve all visitors.
